Pappy Email September 25, 2020

Happy Weekend!

Fall is here! College Football is back, and Bourbon's best season is beginning.

Over the next few months, some damn good Bourbon will hit the shelves. Ok you're right, many of the best ones won't make it near a shelf.

So now is the time to lock in and pay attention to how your state and/or local liquor stores will divvy it up.

Every year, the odds of hunting and finding Pappy at retail goes way down. It is not impossible. I've found a bottle at retail four of the last five years, but I've also had to pay multiples of the suggested retail price for Pappy every year too.

Most states and stores use a lottery or reward programs to move their sparse supply these days.

As this information comes in, we will send out Pappy "Alerts." These are short emails making you aware of how, where and when you can find it or at least enter a drawing, etc. to win it. We have a couple below. One is for Pappy in Atlanta, GA another for the Ohio process for doling out some of the other hard-to-find Bourbons. (Ohio has not announced their plans for Pappy yet.)

And don't forget, on September 30 we will give away a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 20 Year Bourbon. Join us at 9pm live on Facebook. (Note: you do not have to be on Facebook to win. We will send the winner an email right after the drawing ends.)

So, if you want to increase your odds you can

2020 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection: Review and Final Thoughts

Each year Buffalo Trace releases the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC), which represents a cross-section of American whiskeys spanning a wide range of ages, proofs, and styles. In the bourbon industry, BTAC is widely revered as some of the absolute best and most highly sought after American whiskeys released each year, setting the bar high for competitors as well as subsequent releases of each expression within the Collection itself. While the expressions remain relatively consistent from year to year, each year’s vintage brings with it unique nuances relative to previous releases. Because demand for these whiskeys has greatly outpaced supply, bourbon enthusiasts frenzy to get their hands on these whiskeys each year.

Whiskey Review: Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Bourbon (2020) -

Michter’s! What else can we say about Michter’s whiskeys that we have’t said already? I believe Michter’s needs no introduction because you should know by now that Michter’s is solid. Michter’s is like the high school quarterback who doesn’t lose a game, the guy who parts the crowds like Moses just by walking down the hall. Good looking, popular, solid. That’s Michter’s. The quarterback who can write an essay.

But let’s briefly rehash: According to Michter’s in announcing the May launch of their 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Bourbon, “ Michter’s has a long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter’s highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey.” Also, in January 2020 Michter’s was named the #1 top trending American whiskey brand by Drinks International in their annual brand report for the 2nd year in a row.

New Bourbons:

Old Forester to Release Trio of Limited Release Bourbons to Commemorate 150 Years

Old Forester today announced the forthcoming release of three limited edition small batch whiskeys to celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary.

The bourbons are blends of 150 barrels chosen by master distiller Chris Morris, a few of which lost their full contents to angel’s share. What was left was tasted and separated by master taster Jackie Zykan, then separated into three batches.

All three of the bourbons were bottled at cask strength. Batch 1 is comprised of 46 of the barrels and is 125.6 proof; Batch 2 was blended from 48 of the barrels and is a 126.4 proof bourbon, and Batch 3 was made from 53 of the barrels and comes in at 126.8 proof.
